Therefore, the price you pay reflects how sophisticated the hearing instruments are at dealing with speech in background noise. In short, the higher up in tech you go, the more complex the engines work inside the hearing aids to help you hear conversations better when background noise exists.

When you may listen to your friend with ease when you’re sitting in the living room, but as soon as you go somewhere like a pub, a restaurant, or a cafe, you then start to have a little difficulty with the clarity of what is being said. You may mishear, rely on lip reading, context, and body language, or mentally switch off.

The higher the technology level, the easier it is for hearing aids to identify unwanted background noise, focusing in on the current speaker.

If you’re someone who leads a relatively quiet life, perhaps you live on your own, read a lot, don’t really watch television or listen to music, maybe go for walks with your dog, and aren’t in the company of others very often, then bronze and silver technology levels may suit your needs. This will help you stay connected to the world around you, such as listening to bird songs and the sound of the kettle boiling (general sounds of life), and will enable you to participate in conversations in situations that don’t have much noise in the background.

If, however, you’re someone who likes to go out for meals, perhaps has family and friends around the house fairly often, maybe you go to a gym class, like to go to the theatre, plays golf, or work in a busy/interactive environment…, if you’re someone who leads an active life, then we generally recommend going for the highest technology level you can comfortably afford.

If that is genuinely a lower tech level, we will do our best to maximise how effective the hearing instruments are for you. However, because we are independent, this means that if you need something that works hard for you but the latest models are beyond what you can financially warrant, we have the flexibility to reach out to the hearing aid manufacturers to find out what they might have that works hard but is a slightly older model that you can afford.

Styles include the latest, almost invisible, completely in the canal (CIC) hearing aids, and in the ear and in the canal (ITE & ITC) hearing aids.

The different styles we offer aren’t simply about aesthetics, they have various pros and cons depending on the shape of your ear and the extent of your hearing loss. We will always explain why we have made a particular recommendation, so that you can make an informed choice. But ultimately, the decision is up to you.
